UPDATE

Despite tens of thousands of phone calls, emails and letters, Governor Frank Murkowski refuses to stop the aerial gunning of wolves in Alaska.  To make matters worse, the Alaska Board of Game has increased the number of wolves to be killed to over 1,000.  This will be the greatest wolf massacre in half a century.  We remain determined to stop this barbaric practice where marksmen can gun down wolves from the air or chase them to exhaustion — then land and shoot them point blank.  Write to Department of the Interior Secretary Gale Norton to halt the killing as a violation of the Federal Airborne Hunting Act.  We need to build grassroots pressure on her to act!

Wolves in Alaska face a long and dangerous winter.  The anti-conservation Alaska Board of Game voted to allow up to 900 wolves to be killed by the barbaric practice of aerial gunning.   This is six times as many as were killed last winter.

You can help protect Alaska's wolves for future generations by writing to, calling, faxing, or e-mailing:

Last year, Governor Murkowski authorized the aerial killing of wolves in Alaska.  Families of wolves can be gunned down from airplanes, or run to exhaustion in deep snow and then slaughtered when they are too fatigued to escape.  147 wolves were killed under Alaska's program, and once the snow falls the killing will begin again.  Defenders of Wildlife has petitioned the federal government to stop the slaughter, and is keeping up with the program on their website.

Please take a few minutes to learn more about what is happening to Alaska's wolves and join us in helping to stop the aerial killing of these magnificent animals.

Why does Alaska have to learn the same lessons as the lower 48?  PLEASE contact Governor Murkowski today!
